Assignment#2: Dictionary Exercise

1.Incognito: 
                 definition: in a way that prevents other people from finding out who you are.
                 for example: Movie stars often prefer to travel incognito.

2.Astonished:
                 definition: very surprised
                  for example: The helicopter landed before our astonished eyes.

3.Cabbie:  
                definition: a person who drives a taxi.
                for example: my father is a cabbie

4.Moonlight:
                     definition: the light of the moon
                     for example:The floor was dappled with pale moonlight.

5.Rusty:
              definition: not as good as it used to be, because you have not been practising
              for example: I haven't played the piano for ages—I may be a little rusty.
          

The importance of dictionary

Well… the following is this report I learned

First,  a good dictionary should have some functions

     One,large vocabulary:including ,  phrases, idioms, cultural background, current events,  and even place names, have adequate storage

Two,clear definition,a good dictionary need simply explain content, so reader can quickly read and know what this dictionary want to say

Second, How to chose one dictionary that really fit yourself

     Like a person need a lot of reading English, so he or she will find a general dictionary.

     But if you want to learn how to say or listen English, you will need a learner’s dictionary, which is designed specifically for learners.it can really help we directly use English

Third, don’t think that one dictionary can meet all your needs,because each dictionary has its specialized aspects. You need always update your dictionary, if you don’t update, you will out-of-date easily.

Forth,what’s different from CD version and paper edition dictionary

     And compare their advantages and disadvantages.

     CD : convenient and space-saving

     Paper:you can enjoy the finger interaction with the page’s feeling
